Know your slots paytables

Slots are one of the easiest casino games in existence today. There are no skills or strategies involved and the rules are as simple as the ABC’s.  But no matter how easy they are to play, to a new player the slots paytables are going to look like gibberish. Now not being able to understand the slots paytables isn’t going to stop anyone from playing the slots, but when you know how to read the paytables, you actually know what’s going on in the game. So for your reading pleasure Irish Gambling Blog will take a quick look at what you need to know about slots paytables.

Every slot game has a paytable. To view the paytable you simply click the ‘Help’ or ‘Paytable’ button that appears on the top/bottom of the game. The paytable is basically table that tells you what each symbol is worth and the payouts you receive for symbol combinations. Now what you need to know in order to understand what the paytables are saying is what paylines are. Paylines are thpse imaginary lines that tell you the pattern in which the symbols must appear in order to win. Most of the slot games today allow you to play multiple paylines in a single spin. This offers you more chances of winning. But what gets confusing is that not all the paylines are a straight line. They go zig-zag, or go in a V shape, and many other crazy patterns. The paytable will clearly show you the winning patterns and the symbols that win you money too.

There are regular payouts too and the paytables tell you how many of a certain symbol you need to get on one payline. For example if you get 3 cherry symbols on a payline you win 20 coins and if you get 4 cherry symbols you get 50 coins and so on. The rarer a symbol is on a payline the more money you can expect to win on it.

The paytables also tell you about the special symbols in the slot games. One of those symbols is the scatter symbol. If you get a scatter symbol on the reels it multiplies your bet. So if you get a scatter on the reels and you bet $0.05 on 20 paylines, which is a total of $1 the scatter symbol will multiply your $1. Usually you have to get 3 to 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels to multiply your bets. A scatter symbol should not, however, be confused with a multiplier. The multiplier, multiplies the payout on the winning combination.

There are also substitutes in certain slot games. Substitute symbols must appear in a winning combination and not just anywhere on the reels. If the substitute does not appear in a winning combination it usually doubles the prize of the winning combination. If a scatter and a substitute appear on the reels only the scatter wins are calculated.

Wild symbols are another important sort of symbol you will find on the paytables. The wild symbol can substitute for any other symbol to create a winning combination. The wild cannot, however, substitute the scatter symbol. Wild symbols are also often the symbols that trigger the jackpot and if you get all them on all five reels you can walk away with more than just a smile.
